Breaking Loose

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

Phew, prelims is finally over!  Just finished yesterday - Darn that MS exam! I think i’ve crashed and burned that one.  Hopefully, it’s still salvageable…   Man, I hate it when exam week ends that way.  My last day in school for 2006 was a total bummer.  Anyway, I wanted a relief from this toxicity so it was a toss up between my bed or malling at MOA right after.  Fortunately, all I needed was my tummy filled and windowshopping at the ukay2 store under the EDSA LRT station.  On the way home, the jeep I was riding got trapped in horrible traffic on the skyway.  Imagine, we just got up on the ramp and heck, there it was - the long line to the toll booth.  And utter dismay at the sight of light traffic on the regular highway.  Darn it!  Half  of my butt cheeks were off the seat because I was the last one to be seated - then i think to myself, sana nag-MOA na lang ako…  Got to texting Ing and found out about VIP singing for today’s Simbang Gabi.  Agreed to meet and do a bit of jogging… Sheesh, I feel so out of shape - some say I’ve gotten thinner.  Beg to disagree - my face is only a bit gaunt because of my humongous eye bags=P
So this morning, I started my Christmas break with a Simbang Gabi singing with my old choir chums…  Loved singing with you guys again;)   That rendition of Seasons of Love after the mass - really, really hit the spot…  galing, galing ni Mabs at Mito sa solos - mga kaibigan ko ata yan hehehe…  Proceeded to briskwalking/jogging with Ing (and Lara at the start).  So many things to do…  Fix my jungle room, take the leather jacket (a steal at P150 - i love ukay2!) for dry cleaning and get some adjustments done on my jeans and gown.  I got to making only a dent in the jungle room - distracted by my new JAK book (thanks Ing!).  Found that dry cleaning leather costs P325 - Gasp! Lemme resked that.  At least, the adjustments on the clothes went well.   I just love Mato=)  He designed LM’s pandan gown in a pageant last year;p  It was this gorgeous, humongous green dress with colorful flowers - all made in pandan!  That lace addition to the blue gown does wonders to it.   Now I don’t need to think about a new outfit for the Christmas party- good thing gowns can be recycled…   Finally, I’m here browsing the net and checking out other people’s blogs.  I really found great reads - never knew how insightful, dramatic, pessimistic, soulful, inspired, philosophical, funny and crazy my friends can get.  hehehe… kayo rin pala!  And that’s why we’re friends=)

At the office waiting for a ride home.   Tomorrow’s the start of prelims and I have yet to finish my initial reading of the MS handouts.  1 out of 5 subjects - great!  The mistress of cramming has returned;p  I thought I left that particular bad habit in highschool but it’s making a huge comeback this sem… Sigh!  I’ve been getting distracted this weekend.  Take last Friday,  we were dismissed early and instead of going straight home, I go to MOA.  I told myself, it’s better to get my bro’s gift now.  Asked for a sign and was pointed to that direction.  Topman for Don, it is.  Sometimes, I just can’t help but wonder at how different my two brothers are.  Roj chooses to go for the shirts on sale in Artwork - I had to insist on getting him a cool shirt that wasn’t on sale.   Don chooses a plain black sweater with hood from Topman.  Same budget but the tastes are poles apart.  It’s not that hard to imagine why people can’t imagine them as brothers.  I think the only thing they have in common is height.  They’re both tall=)  Anyway, I love malling and went to my fave store - Terranova;p  Everything’s on sale and the sizes are big - what’s not to love?   End of season sale is on.  Got Italian jeans for local prices.  Shirts cost even less than local ones.  Wow,  buti na lang regalo sa ‘kin ang pang-shopping hehehe…  I love the sweaters, pullovers, belts, bags….  For somebody  who lives near the equator,  I like being bundled up.  Still, I step on the brakes… Got a few items only.  There’s a budget to follow.  What really caught my attention was the concert from the San Miguel Chorale and Philharmonic Orchestra in the middle of the mall.  Mr. C was promoting his bossa nova cd and San Miguel’s Pasko cd.  Heavenly, just heavenly!  It’s also nice when you’re watching with people who can also appreciate this type of music.  I can see cool dudes nodding their heads to the music which makes them doubly cooler…  Anyway, it got me staying an extra hour in the mall, but I think it was worth it.  Now last night, I was into my review when…  Pinoy Dream Academy came on! Jeez, this is not really a good time but heck, I had to watch.  The six honor rollees were quite awesome…  I just wish Ronnie didn’t have that woebegone look on his face so much.  Jeez, he’s already part of the top three and he still looks insecure.  What’s up with that?   But, hey, I loved his last number.  I think it’s a Basil Valdez song.  I just can’t remember the title.  JR was a surprise - I honestly thought he would be at the bottom of the list - not gorgeous Chad.  He’s not much of a looker but very talented.  Just goes to show how you can expect the unexpected from ABSCBN.  Yeng’s win - now that was a shoo-in.  I think she could even overthrow her idol Sarah G. if she really put her heart into it.  Quite an accomplishment for the youngest in the group.  Today, Sunday - hmm, slept a bit then went on lector duty.  Special thanks to Shey and her hubby for giving me a ride to church=)  Did a simple summary and analysis paper for MS - hehe, overstayed at Lara’s for the printing;p  But jeez, I don’t get to talk to her these days.  So much for my review. Hay, my Achilles heel… the boob tube, shopping malls and girl talk

Toxic!

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

Finally!  Finished the darn community project.  Well, it’s still up for printing tomorrow… But it’s done… Done!  I can’t believe I haven’t been able to get even a total of 10 hours of sleep the last 3 days just doing this=P  And the usual classes and work.  Anyway, it’s been a crappy day — dysmenorrhea hits when I’m a zombie.   I swear it’s the only thing that’s kept me awake today.  My only relief is locking myself up in a restroom stall for an hour after taking Ponstan 500mg while Ma’am Maroma was discussing in the next room.  I think I actually fell asleep sitting on the throne head on my knees to relieve the pain - very pathetic… Haay, what can I say - it’s my girl thing…  I’m supposed to do flex on tonight but I’m delaying it by a day.  My heart’s not doing good.  Yeah, I’m overdoing stuff…  So, time to have 6 hours of sleep=)  Can’t believe I’m this excited to go to bed.  Just felt like sharing….  Oh, and girlfriends…  those who haven’t gotten replies for the past few days.  Just had my cell reconnected;p  This level of toxicity is gonna go down after prelims next week…  Pray with me that everything works out=)  Ta-ta!  Bed’s waiting…

Before I Wash That Scrub Suit

Friday, December 8th, 2006

Just got home from hospital duty.  We’ve been assigned to Fatima Medical Center (FMC) 6 days straight.  I think it didn’t start out right since I had a problem with bringing  War Machine to school.  War Machine is our 18-year-old paj;p  Hay, idiota ang lola niyo at di ko napansin na bukas pa pala ang ilaw dahil tanghaling tapat.  Darn it, those underpasses…  Tuloy, nadiskargahan ang baterya=P  Buti na lang nasa Divi lang sina Ma at Tita Lorna.  Got a rescue after an hour and an earful from mother dearest;p   Anyway,  I made the mistake of assuming that the orientation would be in the evening given that our shift was 3-11pm.  Turns out it was 8-11AM instead of PM.   Jeez, call center girl talaga ako- panggabi forever=P  I was supposed to be on VL for the whole week, but due to lack of manpower in the office I had to render a whole day and 2 half days.  The work at the hospital and at the office are not tiring by themselves.  It’s really the lack of sleep.  As far as hospital duty is concerned, there has only been one interesting minor surgery where our client got an artery cut in his left hand.   First time for me to see that much blood spilling on the floor.  Good thing I’m not the type to faint.  Anyway, I saw some action there and it made me want to get familiarized with all those instruments — of course, the interest doesn’t last when you’re fatigued=P   A couple of interesting things to note.  I’m in the Operating Room area where sterility is a must.  We wear this white uniform when we arrive at the hospital.  We dress up in our scrub suit and shoes in the OR complex’s dressing room.  You won’t be allowed to get in the complex without the prescribed uniform. Patients and relatives have to wear a scrub gown and slippers, which are provided.  I had a prob with this since I came to the orientation w/o the darn scrub suit.  Borrowed from Ate Myra (a Godsend!).   Unfortunately, I changed at her place not knowing that I had to do it in the OR dressing room so I ended up borrowing a scrub gown and slippers.   Man, why is it so complicated?!  The dressing room itself - amoy paa! aaarrrgh!  Kulang na lang magdala ng air freshener.   There was even this hanger incident 2 days ago.  Basically, there’s this med intern who mistakenly got my hanger when I left it over my bag during our lunch break.  I get back from the break to find her uniform on it so I take the suit off the hanger.  A bunch of keys fell out of a pocket so I put it back in then folded the uniform and placed it neatly on top of another suit at the bottom of the cabinet. Then, I placed my uniform on my hanger and place it on a separate rack.  A few hours later,  my groupmates find a note on a tissue paper in these exact words on my hanger: "HOY!!! HANGER MO BA TO?  Tama Bang Ilaglag sa sahig ang Uniform Ko.  Damahin mo ang pagkakaroon ng uniform sa SAHIG!"   Wow, this came from a doctor…  I didn’t think of retaliating at first because it seemed so petty.  Nabusisi tuloy ni Alan (our dakilang leader;p) ang grammar ng bruha hahaha… I don’t even know how her uniform got on the floor when i put it inside the cabinet.   Anyway,  my groupmates found my uniform on the floor.  I don’t care much about getting a little dirt on the uniform -  I had another change of clothes for my office shift.    It just boggles the mind how someone educated can act like that.  First of all, it’s not her hanger.  Second, she obviously didn’t value her things.  Otherwise,  she would’ve brought her own and please, those bunch of keys - it might’ve been for a house or a car.   How could she leave it there?    To give the person the benefit of the doubt, it’s possible a friend of hers wrote it ‘coz a groupmate heard the interns talking about it in the dressing room.    I would’ve been irritated myself if I found my uniform on the floor.  I’ve heard of doctor primadonnas but this one…  probably on her way to being one if she isn’t yet.  Sayang, di ko nakasalubong o nakita man lang ang uniform niya today.  No, I don’t plan to throw hers on the floor — although that might just be tit for tat.   I was thinking of leaving her a note as well - just to correct her wrong assumption and give her a piece of my mind.  I’m far from being the neatest person in the world, but I bring a hanger and place my stuff properly outside my home.   This melodramatic doctor goes haywire over a hanger that isn’t hers and leaves important stuff for people to get.  Then, she expects to find everything in order when she comes back?!  It’s really unbecoming and distasteful for a person in her position.  She’s not a kid anymore!  Buti na lang,  I read her name on the scrub suit she hung so I know who to address if ever. Hay, just had to get that off my chest.  Who knows,  I may never get to see that intern again…   Well, going back to hospital duty…  I think our group will be getting our masteral in folding drapes and washing instruments.   No cases yet!  I’ve started bringing magazines yesterday just to while away the time.   I know, I know,  I should’ve brought my nursing books to review… I probably will tomorrow.  It’s just that I don’t want to fall asleep during duty hehehe;p  Some nursing books are really tragically boring.  Prelims is coming and I still haven’t figured out when I’ll have the time to study.  I should be studying right now but I’m giving myself a break tonight.  In a couple of minutes,  I’ll be washing my only scrub suit set.  Darn, I should’ve listened to my gut instinct to buy at least 2 sets.   Anyway, tomorrow’s our last day so no need to bother until our next OR duty. Schedule’s going to be more hectic in the next 2 weeks.  We have a whole week of lecture this coming week; then here comes Prelims the next week.   My groupmates are loading up on books from Recto other than the recommended textbook just to help in their review.  I was about to order the same books myself when I realized I might not even have time to open them if I decide to get them.   I’ll probably have to make time by the looks of it.  MS is 7 units…  can’t afford to get a low one there or on any of the other 3 subjects.   Man. oh man!  Gotta get my sked figured out fast=P  Sige, that scrub suit’s probably gone thru enough soaking by now.  Ta-ta!
